Ayanda Borotho, born Ayanda Ngubane on 13 January 1981, is a celebrated South African actress and former model. She is best known for her title role in the SABC 1 sitcom “Nomzamo” from 2007 to 2010, where she replaced Zinzile Zungu. She also played the character of Phumelele Zungu on Mzansi Magic’s telenovela “Isibaya”.
Early Life
Born in the township of Ntuzuma near Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, Ayanda’s journey began on 13 January 1981. She attended Brettonwood High School in Umbilo, Durban, where she received training in speech and drama. Furthering her education, she pursued an Integrated Marketing Communications diploma at the AAA School of Advertising from 1999 to 2001, specializing in strategic brand management.
Career
Ayanda’s acting career took off in 1999 when she secured the role of Thami, a babysitting schoolgirl, in the SABC 1 soapie “Generations”. In 2000, she had a minor role in the Leon Schuster film “Mr Bones”. Her career took a significant turn in 2007 when she replaced Zinzile Zungu as Nomzamo in the second season of the SABC 1 sitcom “Nomzamo”.
In 2009, Ayanda played the minor role of Busi in the fourth season of the SABC 1 drama series “Home Affairs”. Her career continued to flourish in 2013 when she was cast as Phumelele on Mzansi Magic’s telenovela “IsiBaya”. In 2018, she was cast as Khethiwe in a South African television drama series “Ambition”. In 2022, she landed a notable role on SABC 1’s “Generation’s The Legacy” as Dr Busisiwe. She also plays Queen Nandi’s mother in “Shaka Ilembe”.
