Born on 14 August 1980 in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Brenda grew up in a township located 12 km north of Durban. Her interest in acting began to manifest during her teenage years. By the age of sixteen, she had already started exploring her potential in acting.

Despite her fame as a cast member of the soap opera Generations, Brenda has kept her personal life private. She has not disclosed any information about her family to the media, including The Nation. Similarly, details about her educational background remain undisclosed.

Personal Life

Brenda is married to Edmund Mhlongo, a theatrical director. The couple has been together for over 20 years. Reports suggest that Brenda married Edmund at the age of 18. However, Brenda was heartbroken to discover that Edmund had married another woman, identified as Nkosi Mpanza, without her knowledge or approval. The wedding, which took place at Nkosi’s home in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal, on Good Friday, allegedly occurred behind Brenda’s back. Brenda is a mother to three children; Zama Mhlongo, Snikiwe Mhlongo, and Nethezeko Mhlongo.

Following the exit of popular actress Fundiswa Zwane from the South African television drama series ‘Imbewu’, Brenda was appointed as her replacement. She then played the role of KaMadonsela. Brenda’s talent has also seen her perform in stage productions in countries outside the African continent, including Germany, North America, and Hong Kong.

Her exceptional performances have earned her several awards and recognitions, including two international awards from notable award sponsors. For five years, Brenda toured North America while playing the role of Rafiki. She has also made remarkable appearances in other shows, including her first appearance as Mam Ngwenya in the Anthology series dubbed eKasi: Our Stories.

Brenda was also cast in Ihawu as Ntswaki Mhlongo and has worked as a presenter. She was a guest presenter at the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s Crown Gospel Music Awards and a guest on the entertainment show Top Billing. In the soap opera Uzalo, Brenda was cast as Buhle. She joins Muzi Mthabela, who replaced Tony Kgoroge as the lead, Zimele Bhengu. The show boasts over three million views daily.
