Buhle was born and raised in Soweto, but later moved to Pretoria North, South Africa. Her mother, a nurse in Saudi Arabia, often watches SA news and communicates with Buhle via phone. Buhle has an older sister named Mbali Samuels, but she has never publicly disclosed information about her father.

Career History

Buhle Samuels began her career by hosting a breakfast show on the Africa Magic channel. In 2014, she gained popularity for her role as Matshidiso Mofokeng on SABC2’s flagship soap opera, ‘Muvhango’. Many South African TV stars auditioned for this role but failed. The ‘Muvhango’ producers discovered Buhle’s talent and skills during her audition for ‘The Lion King’ and found her suitable for the role of Matshidiso.

In an interview with Metro FM’s Morning Fixx show, Buhle explained that she enjoyed playing Matshidiso, even though her real-life behavior was the complete opposite of the character portrayed on the screen. She described the experience of playing the vindictive and mean Matshidiso as challenging yet fun, given her sweet nature off-screen.

Achievements and Future Plans

At the 2nd Annual Royalty Soapie Awards in 2015, Buhle was nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ for her role in ‘Muvhango’. However, she lost the award to Izak Davel, who played Bradley Haines on SABC3’s ‘Isidingo’. After four years on ‘Muvhango’, Buhle left the show to pursue new adventures and work on her music career.

In 2019, she joined the cast of the thrilling e.tv’s ‘Imbewu: The Seed’, where she plays Zandile. The show revolves around an ambitious business tycoon determined to become South Africa’s first Black oil baron. Buhle expressed her desire to grow in the entertainment industry and venture into behind-the-scenes work like directing shows and films.

Buhle Samuels entered wedlock with Thando Sonqishe in a private ceremony on May 2, 2022. While little is known about Thando Sonqishe, his name was associated with the 2017 OR Tambo International Airport heist, during which millions in foreign currency were stolen.

As of February 2024, Buhle Samuels and Thando Sonqishe do not have any children. The couple has not publicly expressed any immediate plans to have children.

Controversial Encounter

In 2017, Buhle Samuels found herself in the midst of controversy when she publicly shamed a 44-year-old man named Paul Dominick. Mr. Dominick had sent her an email, offering to pay her R250,000 for one night of intimacy. Infuriated by the proposition, Buhle posted a screenshot of the email on Instagram, vehemently stating that she was not for sale. She used the incident to call for an end to the objectification of women and garnered support from her followers.
