Charmaine Mtinta is a renowned actress hailing from South Africa. She rose to fame with her remarkable performance as Nomsa in the debut season of the SABC1 drama series “Yizo Yizo”. This role brought her widespread recognition and she was awarded the Avanti Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series, a testament to her exceptional acting skills.

Personal Background

Born in Gugulethu, a township located in the Western Cape, Charmaine Mtinta has a simple yet disciplined lifestyle. She starts her day with yoga, a practice she believes keeps her fit. She also has a fondness for tea. It’s worth noting that despite some misconceptions, Charmaine Mtinta does not practice as a sangoma (traditional healer).

Education

Mtinta’s educational journey began at East Side College, where she pursued Music and specialized in Jazz. Her passion for acting led her to further her studies at the Indigo View Actors Academy, where she honed her drama skills.

Career

Charmaine’s acting career took off in 1999 when she debuted as Nomsa in the first season of “Yizo Yizo”. Despite her roles in other popular soap operas like “Generations” and “Isibaya”, her portrayal of Nomsa remains a defining moment in her career.

Over two decades in the film and television industry, Charmaine has continually evolved as an actress, gaining invaluable experience along the way. In 2011, she played a significant role as Pearl, the opportunistic widow of Lebo’s uncle, in the SABC1 sitcom “Gauteng Maboneng”. She also portrayed Aunt Lizzie in the Mzansi Magic telenovela “Inkaba” from 2012 to 2013.

Her acting portfolio is diverse, with appearances in shows like “Isibaya”, “My Perfect Family”, “Tempy Pushas”, “Zibondiwe”, “Hope”, and “Igazi”, among others. She also played Nomfundo Langa, the onscreen sister of Lulama, in the e.tv soap opera Scandal! starting from August 23, 2019.

In the e.tv drama soap opera “Smokes and Mirrors”, she played Nomeva alongside Zolisa Xaluva and Meshack Mavuso. Charmaine also fulfilled her aspiration to perform in theatre by participating in the play “Xova”, which recently won five awards at the Naledi Theatre Awards.
