The Journey to Toronto FC
In July 2023, Mailula bid farewell to Sundowns after signing a four-year contract with Toronto FC. The club officially announced the acquisition of the South African forward from Mamelodi Sundowns FC of the DStv Premiership (South Africa, First Division) through 2026, with an option for 2027. His addition to the roster is part of the U-22 Initiative, pending his medicals, work visa, and the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

The MLS is known for publicly revealing player earnings, and it has been confirmed that Mailula is earning $275,000 (R5.2 million) in base salary and $291,003 (R5.5 million) in guaranteed compensation per year at his new club. This translates to a monthly guaranteed compensation of $24,250 (R458,000). This substantial income further underscores the financial advantages of Mailula’s move to Major League Soccer.
