Hlomla Dandala, born on September 22, 1974, is a seasoned actor, experienced director, and oratory presenter. He has been a dominant figure in the South African entertainment industry since his acting debut in 1995. Over the years, he has featured in and directed numerous dramas and series, gaining recognition for his role as Derek Nyathi in Isidingo (1998–2001).

Born in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa, in 1974, Hlomla Dandala comes from a well-known family. His father, Mvume Dandala, is a respected figure in society, having served as the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of South Africa and the head of the All Africa Conference of Churches. The family name has undoubtedly contributed to Hlomla’s rise to stardom. His relative, Gqibelo Dandala, played a significant role in introducing him to the industry.

Hlomla Dandala received his secondary education at the Sacred Heart College. After graduation, he proceeded to Johannesburg Wits University, where he graduated with top grades.

Career in the Entertainment Industry

Hlomla Dandala embarked on his career in the entertainment industry in 1995. He is best known for his roles as Derek Nyathi in Isidingo (1998-2001), the title character Jacob Makhubu in Jacob’s Cross (since 2007), and the host of All You Need Is Love from 2002-2003. He currently stars in Rockville as Gomorrah, the main antagonist of the third season, and e.tv’s prime time soap opera, Scandal! as Kingsley Siseko Langa from 2016.

He speaks four languages: Afrikaans, English, Xhosa, and Zulu. He likes to ride a motorbike for relaxation.
