Khanyisani Kheswa, a name now synonymous with South African drama, was born and raised in the vibrant city of Durban. His journey into the world of acting began at J.L. Dube High School, where he matriculated in 2011. His passion for the arts led him to the Creative Arts College, where he honed his acting skills and graduated in 2015.

Stepping into the Theatre Scene

Post-graduation, Khanyisani immersed himself in the Durban theatre scene, making a name for himself with his compelling performances. His dedication and talent did not go unnoticed, paving the way for his television debut.

Khanyisani Kheswa Biography: Television Debut and Early Roles

In March 2017, Khanyisani made his television debut in a guest role in an episode of the SABC1 docu-drama reality series Now or Never (Season 5, Episode 8). His performance aired on 27 March, 2017, marking his first appearance on the small screen.

Just a month later, he co-starred in an Mzansi Original TV Movie on Mzansi Magic called Ntwana Yam. The plot revolves around four friends who stumble upon a gun, leading them into a world of trouble. The movie first aired on Saturday, 8 April, 2017.

Breakthrough Role as Mzi in Vula Vala

Khanyisani’s breakthrough came when he landed his first starring role in television. He was cast as Mzi, a young soccer player who leaves Ladysmith to find a better life in Johannesburg, in the Mzansi Magic soccer drama Vula Vala. The series premiered on 4 October, 2020, and Khanyisani’s portrayal of Mzi was met with critical acclaim.

Khanyisani’s talent has seen him take on a variety of roles in different shows:

  • Isitha: The Enemy – Season 1: He played the character of Mbuso Ngwenya, showcasing his versatility.
  • Now or Never – Season 5: He portrayed the character of Baby Jake.
  • Shaka iLembe – Season 1: He took on the role of Prince Nomo, adding another feather to his cap.
  • Umkhokha: The Curse – Season 1: He played Young Zibuse, further demonstrating his range as an actor.
  • Vula Vala – Season 1: His portrayal of Mzi Msomi is considered one of his best performances to date.
