Khayalethu Xaba, affectionately known as Khaya, is a South African actor, comedian, and fashion designer. He first gained prominence after participating in the Mzansi Magic reality television show, Style Squad, in 2019. His innovative designs caught the attention of many, paving the way for his successful career. Khaya has since featured in several TV shows and films, including Shaka Ilembe, Smoke and Mirrors, Quantum Sound, and Bengilele Hotel. He is also a popular figure on TikTok, where his humorous videos have garnered over 2 million likes and attracted a following of 251K.

Early Life and Education

Born on August 15, 2004, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Khayalethu Xaba was raised in a family of artists. His father was a painter and his mother, a singer. This artistic environment nurtured his passion for fashion and acting from a young age. He frequently participated in school plays and talent shows, showcasing his budding talents. Khayalethu attended Parklands High School, where he excelled both academically and in sports. He graduated with distinction in 2022, intending to pursue a degree in Film, but his career in showbiz took off.

Career Path

Fashion Design

Khayalethu Xaba embarked on his career as a fashion designer in 2019 when he auditioned for the Mzansi Magic reality show, Style Squad. Among the 12 contestants vying for the title of South Africa’s best young designer, Khayalethu stood out with his original and diverse creations. His designs ranged from a futuristic jumpsuit and a traditional Zulu outfit to a glamorous red carpet gown. Although he made it to the top three, he lost to Thando Mkhize.

Acting Career

Despite not winning the competition, Khayalethu’s exposure on the show opened many doors for him in the entertainment industry. In 2023, he landed the role of Mpendulo, a charismatic DJ, in the e.tv soapie, Smoke and Mirrors. His on-screen chemistry with co-star Zazi Kunene, who played his love interest Sindi, made him a fan favourite.

In 2021, Khayalethu appeared in the SABC 1 musical drama, Quantum Sound, where he portrayed Sizwe, a talented rapper grappling with fame and addiction. The following year, he made his big-screen debut in the comedy film, Bengilele Hotel, playing Lucky, a naive and adventurous hotel manager who finds himself in hilarious situations with his guests.

Khayalethu also features in Shaka iLembe, a TV series that delves into the life of the iconic African king, Shaka, during the 1700s. He plays the role of a bully, tormenting young Shaka. Some of his scenes can be viewed on his TikTok account.

Social Media Fame

In addition to his acting career, Khayalethu Xaba has carved out a niche for himself as a popular social media personality. He joined TikTok in 2020 and began posting funny videos of himself doing impressions, jokes, dances, challenges, and skits. Collaborating with other celebrities such as Priddy Flash, Joseph Dary, Luhtwizzy, Bliss Modiba, and Thabiso Molokomme, his videos have gone viral several times, amassing millions of views and likes. He also runs a YouTube channel, KHAYALETHU XABA TV, where he shares more of his comedic content.

Personal Life

While Khayalethu Xaba is currently single, he has been linked to several co-stars and friends in the past. He was in a relationship with Thando Mkhize, the winner of Style Squad, for a few months in 2019, but they parted ways due to their busy schedules. Rumours also circulated about a possible romance with Zazi Kunene, his Smoke and Mirrors co-star, but they both denied any romantic involvement, stating they were just good friends. He has also been spotted hanging out with Bliss Modiba, his Quantum Sound co-star, but they have neither confirmed nor denied their relationship status.

Khayalethu Xaba maintains a close relationship with his family, particularly his younger sister, Nokuthula, an aspiring actress. He often visits them in Durban during his breaks from work.
