The Reality of Acting in South Africa
Despite his success, Letuka Dlamini has a realistic view of the acting industry in South Africa. He has a background in IT studies and, although he is currently a writer, actor, and director, he doesn’t believe that acting is a viable career in this country yet. This belief stems from the fact that an actor needs to be working in about two or three productions just to break even financially. Only a select few make a comfortable living out of it. For Letuka, acting is something you do because you genuinely love it.
Beyond Acting: Letuka Dlamini’s Other Endeavors
In addition to his acting career, Letuka Dlamini is also the executive director of a YouTube sitcom. He spends his free time talking to people, giving talks to youth groups, and even in schools to encourage them to never give up and follow their dreams. The show, which has become a social media sensation, stars local actors and actresses depicting the lives of individuals living in an apartment block in Johannesburg during the national lockdown. Letuka helped conceptualize some of the ideas of the show, became part of the creative team, and took on the role of Okwesi.
A Message to the Youth
Letuka Dlamini has a heartfelt message for young boys: God loves you, He’s there, He’s listening, and they must reach out and ask for help. He believes that one of his biggest mistakes as a young person was trying to do everything himself. He encourages the youth to study their craft and themselves as individuals. He advises them not to rush and to take the time to learn.
