Biography of Lunathi Mampofu

Born on 7th March 1987 in Cape Town, South Africa, Lunathi is the daughter of Nosabata and Patrick Mampofu. She has two siblings, Oros Mampofu and Mkhokheli Prince Mampofu. Her family’s and brothers’ love for the arts greatly influenced her career choice. She was particularly inspired by her elder twin brothers, who were successful in the industry.

Lunathi received her training at the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA), graduating in 2010. She later attended the New York Film Academy, graduating in 2013.

Career

Lunathi began her career at a young age, performing in school and other competitions, which brought her media attention. While in New York City and Los Angeles, California, she participated in several professional and student films, including “Umthandazo”, “Rising Light”, “Shack Attack”, and “Mercy”, among others.

Upon returning to South Africa, Lunathi made her TV debut in 2016, starring as a spiritualist in an episode of the Mzansi Magic drama series “Isikizi”. This opened more acting opportunities in the country.

Lunathi has starred in numerous theatre productions, including “Almost Maine”, “Remember to Remember the Memorial”, and “Look Before You Leap”. She has also appeared in various movies and TV shows, including “Karektas”, “Ambitions”, “Celeb Feasts with Zola”, “Ingozi”, “Isikizi”, “Kings of Jo’burg”, “Shadow”, “The Queen”, “The River”, “Unmarried”, “This is How”, “Lockdown Heights”, “The Flat Tires”, and “The Good Man”.

In addition to acting, Lunathi has worked as a casting director at Gersh Studios in Los Angeles, California, and at Scout’s Honour in Seapoint, Cape Town, South Africa. She has also appeared in commercials for clients such as Glen Tea and Discovery Insurance.
