Early Life and Education
Born in the township of Umlazi in Durban, Sandile Zungu’s journey to becoming a successful businessman began from humble beginnings.
Zungu’s academic journey is as impressive as his business career. He attended Hilton College and completed his post-matric in 1984. Following this, he pursued a BSc in Mechanical Engineering at the prestigious University of Cape Town. His thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. He further obtained an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business in 1995. To top it all, he completed a Program for Global Leadership certificate at the renowned Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, in 2000.

Zungu Investments Company (Zico)
In 2002, Zungu established the Zungu Investments Company (Zico), a diversified industrial holdings organization. The company’s interests span across various sectors including education, manufacturing, property, sport, forensics, gaming, and resources. As the executive chairman of the company, Zungu has been instrumental in its growth and success.
In 2020, Zungu made a significant move in the sports industry by acquiring the football club AmaZulu F.C. This acquisition placed him among the top South African football club owners.
Other Roles and Responsibilities
Zungu’s influence extends beyond his own company. He became the new Chancellor at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) in September 2022. He also holds the position of Chairman at EOH Holdings. Furthermore, he serves as the non-executive Director of Grindrod Limited and Novus Holdings. He is a member of the BRICS Business Council and the President of the Black Business Council. In addition to his business roles, Zungu is a Member of the Presidential Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council and the Chairperson of the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) Board of Advisors.
Zungu was married to businesswoman Zodwa Zungu, with whom he had three children, Mfundo, Lwazi, and Vuyo. Unfortunately, their union ended with Zodwa’s untimely death after a long battle with cancer. In June 2022, Zungu married Nozipho Magubane in a lavish wedding ceremony in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The wedding was attended by many top celebrities, businesspeople, and politicians, including billionaire CAF boss Patrice Motsepe. Zungu’s daughter, Sinenjabulo Zungu, is the Chief Executive Officer of AmaZulu.
