Thapelo Maseko

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the signing of the highly talented left wing Thapelo Maseko from SuperSport United. At just 20 years old, Maseko was a key player in SuperSport’s attack, helping the team to finish third in the DStv Premiership under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt.

A Warm Welcome to the Yellow Nation

Sundowns took to Twitter to announce the signing, saying “The wait is over! Welcome to the Yellow Nation, Thapelo Maseko.”

A Rising Star in the DStv Premiership

Maseko was nominated for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award, which was ultimately won by Sundowns’ Cassius Mailula. Mailula is expected to join a US team during this off-season.

Impressive Stats for a Young Player

In the 2022-23 season, Maseko scored four goals in 24 Premiership games for SuperSport and a total of four goals in 38 games across all competitions.

Another Talent Plundered from SuperSport by Sundowns

Maseko’s signing marks yet another instance of Sundowns acquiring a talented player from their neighbours SuperSport. In recent years, players such as Maphosa Modiba, Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule, Grant Kekana, and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams have all made the switch from SuperSport’s blue to Sundowns’ yellow.
