Tebatso Mashishi, also known as Kgosi, is a rising star in the entertainment industry. As an actor, writer, and rapper, he has made significant strides in his career over the past few years. Early Life and Background
Tebatso Mashishi was born in 1997 in a village called Rathoke, located in Limpopo. Now 27 years old, Mashishi’s journey to stardom began in this humble setting.
Education and Early Career
In 2016, Mashishi graduated with a B tech degree from the Drama/Film department of the Tshwane University of Technology. The following year, he enrolled in and completed the acting program at the Duma Ndlovu Actor’s Academy at the Joburg Theatre. During this time, Mashishi also gained practical experience by working as a lighting assistant at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
Theatre Experience and Recognition
Mashishi has been involved in various major theatrical productions at the South African State Theatre. Here, he demonstrated his talent time and again, following in the footsteps of the legendary theatre player, Aubrey Sekhabi. His hard work and dedication have earned him numerous nominations for the Community Arts Dramaturgy Outreach (CADO) awards at the State Theatre.
Early Acting Roles
While still in his third year of studying, Mashishi was fortunate enough to land an acting job. He was cast as Biza (the mole) on the single-season Mzanzi Magic Sotho show, Ya Lla, in 2015.

Breakthrough Role
In 2019, Mashishi got his biggest break when he was cast in the local hit movie, Matwetwe. He played the role of Papi, and the film’s success significantly boosted his career.
Personal Tragedy
On a tragic note, Mashishi was with his Matwetwe co-star and friend, Sibusiso Khwinana, when Khwinana was fatally stabbed by a mugger two years ago. The incident occurred at the corner of Pretorius and Steve Biko Streets when Khwinana was accosted by a suspect demanding his cellphone. The struggle resulted in Khwinana being stabbed and dying at the scene.
Role in Muvhango
Mashishi joined the cast of Muvhango in 2017 as a third assistant director. He was later offered the role of Kgosi, the long-lost son of the rich and controversial businessman, Khakhathi ‘KK’ Mulaudzi.
Musical Career
In addition to his acting career, Tebatso is also a noted rap musician. He performs under the stage name Prodykal Son, a reference to the biblical story of the Prodigal Son. He believes that creating music helps him maintain a balanced mindset.
